CAVES NORTH CORFU

AGIOI DOULOI

KAMARELA GRAVA CAVE

Kamarela Grava cave is located near the old watermill of Kamarela close to the village of Agioi Douloi and on private property of a Russian priest. The cave is also called Moutsan Agas, frequently pronounced as one name. In the Venetian era the feudal master Moutsan Agas owned most of the land around Agioi Douloi and the nearby villages. The watermill was his property and was operated till the mid sixties.

The locals say the feudal master stole land from the villagers by threatening them and that Moutsan Agas killed everyone he did not like. The dead were burried in the cave. There is no written evidence to confirm this story.

The cave is located in a building behind the watermill. Nowadays the cave is much smaller than in the past. The cave, more a cellar, has stalactites.
